We are not a removals firm

Search for “bernard moves” and you will mostly find American removals companies with similar names. We are not one of them and we are not connected to any of them.

Bernard Moves Ltd is a software company in London. The only thing we move is a website: the pages, the pictures, the blog posts and the links, from one host to another. Nobody carries a box. If you need a van, we cannot help you.

What we actually do

The move. You give us the address of the website you already have. Bernard copies it, rebuilds it as fast, plain pages, and checks it still looks right. Your pages, blog posts and links come across, so addresses people have already shared keep working. It is free with an annual plan.

Everything after the move. We host the site and keep it in good order. It is built to be read properly by Google and by AI assistants, which is the part most small sites get wrong. It is also where you keep your contacts, sell things and run courses, so those are not scattered across spreadsheets and Instagram messages.

The editing. There is no dashboard to learn. You tell an AI assistant you already use, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, what you want changed. It makes the change and shows you a preview. Nothing goes live until you approve it.

Why we started

For years, when people asked Lindsay where to put their website, he said Squarespace. Every time, he knew it was too much: a database, a content management system, an editor with a pencil icon you have to learn, and a monthly bill, all to show fifteen paintings and a phone number.

Spencer had been quietly hosting friends’ sites for thirty years. Artists, makers, the odd charity. People who needed to be online and had no business paying an agency to get there. It was never a business, just a thing you did for people you liked.

Databases and page editors were invented to spare people from writing HTML. That was the whole reason they existed. In 2026 the machine writes the HTML, so the workaround has outlived its job. A small site can be built once, served fast for pennies, and rebuilt whenever something changes.

So Bernard is a hermit crab. You have outgrown the shell you are in. It felt like a good fit when you moved in, five years and a couple of thousand pounds ago. Bernard picks up your site, moves it into one that fits, and then he is just there, looking after it.

The people

Bernard was founded in 2026 by Spencer Thursfield, who looks after brand and product, and Lindsay Smith, who looks after engineering. They are the company’s two directors.

There are two of us. We build Bernard ourselves and we answer our own email.
