Do I have to add the tag myself?

Email everyone who has a certificate for one of my courses

When someone gets a certificate, bernard notes it on their contact record in two ways: a tag, and a line in their history. That means the lists and campaigns you already use work with certificates, with no extra setup.

The tag

Each certificate adds the tag certificate: followed by what it is for, such as “certificate: Hypnobirthing Level 3” or “certificate: Attended the Spring doula retreat”. Look at anyone’s contact record and you can see what they hold.

When a certificate is cancelled, the tag comes off, unless the person holds another live certificate that carries the same tag. A replaced certificate keeps its tag, because the replacement carries it (A certificate has the wrong name, or I need to cancel one).

The history line

Each issue, replacement and cancellation also appears in the person’s history, with the certificate number and, for a change, your reason.

The record also has a Certificates section listing every certificate the person holds, with its number, its date and whether it is printed, replaced or cancelled.

Using it in your email

Because it is an ordinary tag, you can narrow a campaign with it:

“Email everyone certified in Level 2 about Level 3.”
“Email everyone certified in Level 2, but not the people already certified in Level 3.”

You can save either as a list to use again. As with every campaign, only people who agreed to hear from you are included, and nothing sends until you approve it.

The certificate is the record

The tag is a convenience copy. If you delete a tag by hand, the certificate still exists, and bernard never decides whether someone holds a certificate by looking at their tags.
