What can I do with Claude Design and my bernard site?
Two tools, one site. Claude Design is where you look at a page and change it by hand or by asking; bernard is where the page actually lives, gets previewed, and goes live. The connection between them is the same one-click sign-in you use for Claude on the web, so there is nothing to install.
The prompt
“Explain what you can do with my [site name] site from Claude Design: which pages you can read in, what comes back when I push a change, and what still has to be done in bernard.”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
The loop
Read a real page into Claude Design, with its true copy, colours and fonts. Edit it there. Push what changed back to your draft, one element at a time, so nothing you did not touch is disturbed. Look at the preview. Publish when you are happy. The full walkthrough, including what to type at each step, is Can I edit my site in Claude Design and push the changes back?. If you work from a terminal, connect both sides in Claude Code first: How do I use Claude Code with Claude Design and my bernard site?.
What makes it safe to try
Nothing goes public on Claude’s initiative. Every change lands in the draft, and an edit is refused if the page changed underneath it, so two people working on one site cannot quietly overwrite each other. What a connected AI can read, check and take out of your site is set out in What can a connected AI read, check and take out of my site?.
Where the line is
Blocks bernard generates itself, shop and course pages and its own sign-up forms, keep their words in bernard. Photos stay in your library and appear in the design as slots; ask Claude for the file itself when you need the original, not a link, because a link expires within minutes.
Questions people ask
- What is Claude Design?
- Anthropic’s visual design tool. You describe or draw what you want and it produces real pages you can edit by hand on a canvas. Connected to bernard, it can start from your actual site rather than a blank page.
- Do I need a separate login or key for it?
- No. Claude Design runs on your Claude login, so the one-click connection you make from Account is the one it uses. Connect once, revoke from the same place when you want to.
- Does anything go live from Claude Design on its own?
- No. Every change lands in your draft, and nothing goes live until you approve it, either by pressing Approve in bernard or by asking Claude to publish. You can open the draft preview as many times as you like first.
- What still has to be done in bernard?
- The words on blocks bernard builds itself: shop and course pages, and its own sign-up forms. Photos also stay in bernard’s library; the design shows them as slots, and Claude can hand you the file to drop in.
