Use the same lesson in two of my courses
Some material earns its place in more than one course. A safeguarding module, an introduction to your method, a lesson on the equipment you always recommend - material you wrote once and would rather not write again.
Name the lessons and where you want them:
Copy the Safeguarding basics and Recording an incident lessons from my Level 3 course into my Level 4 course.
They arrive complete: the written notes, the video, any worksheets attached to them, and how long they run.
The originals stay put
This copies. Nothing is moved and nothing is removed from the course you took them from.
From the moment the copy exists, the two lessons are independent. Improve the wording in one course and the other keeps the words it had. That is usually what people want - the same material, adapted to a different level - but it is worth knowing, because if you want a genuine correction in both places you need to make it in both places (Change the same thing in every lesson of my course is the quick way when it is the same change).
Where they land
At the end of the destination course, in the order you listed them. If they belong in the middle of a module, ask Bernard to move them once they've arrived.
If the destination already has a lesson with the same web address, Bernard gives the new copy a slightly different one and tells you which. Nothing you already had is overwritten - and a lesson quietly overwriting another is exactly the failure that rule exists to prevent.
What doesn't come with them
Quizzes. A knowledge check is attached to the lesson it sits on, and copying it needs its own decisions about pass marks and whether it's required. Copy the lesson, then add a check to the new one if you want it (Add a quiz to my course).
Your students' progress. Someone who completed the lesson in the first course has not completed the new one. They're separate lessons in separate courses.
Or copy the whole thing
If you find yourself listing most of a course's lessons, you want a duplicate instead - it brings the sections, the settings and the quizzes as well (Make a copy of one of my courses).

“Copy the [lesson name] and [lesson name] lessons from my [course name] course into my [other course name] course.”

Questions people ask
- Does the lesson leave the first course?
- No. It is copied, not moved. The original stays exactly where it is, and from then on the two are separate - editing one does not change the other.
- Where do the copies land?
- At the end of the destination course, in the order you listed them. If they belong somewhere else in the running order, ask Bernard to move them once they're there.
- What if a lesson with that name already exists there?
- Bernard gives the copy a slightly different web address rather than refusing or overwriting anything, and tells you exactly which ones he renamed. Nothing you already had is replaced.
- Do the videos get uploaded again?
- No. The copy points at the same video file, so copying a video lesson is instant and uses no extra storage.
- Do quizzes come with the lesson?
- No. A quiz is attached to the lesson it sits on, and copying it across would need its own decisions about marking and pass marks. Copy the lesson first, then add a quiz to the new one and approve it if you want it.
- Is this the same as duplicating a course?
- It's the smaller version. Duplicating copies everything - lessons, quizzes, sections, settings - into a brand new course. This copies the handful of lessons you name into a course that already exists.
