Why won't the AI edit my course or shop pages?
Most of your site is a set of ordinary pages: you or the AI edit them, and they stay edited. A few pages work differently, and it's worth knowing which - because it explains something that otherwise looks like the AI being unhelpful.
bernard builds some of your pages
Your course pages, lesson pages, membership pages, your learner area and your shop, product and collection pages are not typed out by hand. bernard builds them from the settings behind them - the course, its lessons, its price, your products - and it rebuilds them from scratch whenever any of that changes. Add a lesson, change a price, fix a typo in a course description, and every affected page is regenerated.
That is what keeps them consistent and correct. It also means an edit written straight into one of those pages does not survive: the next rebuild replaces the page, and your edit goes with it. It would look like it worked for a while, and then quietly undo itself - which is worse than being told no.
So the AI is told no. If you ask it to edit one of those pages directly, it declines and explains why, then makes the change at the source instead.

You mostly do not need to think about any of this. Ask for what you want the way you would say it out loud - "change the description on my glazing course", "my course pages look nothing like the rest of my site" - and the AI picks the right route.
Site-wide changes skip these pages, and say so
If you ask for something across the whole site - your business has been renamed, your phone number changed - the AI sweeps every page it can and skips the built ones, then tells you which. That is deliberate: the sweep still fixes everything else rather than stopping dead, and the built pages get the new wording as soon as you change it in the course or product it comes from.
If a skipped page still says the old thing afterwards, that is the tell: the wording lives in a setting, not on the page. Say so and the AI will go and change it there.
Deleting one
You can't delete a built page as a file - it would reappear on the next rebuild, and in between your site would have a dead link. Archive or delete the course, lesson or product itself, and its page goes away properly.

Questions people ask
- The AI says it can't edit my course page. Is something broken?
- No. Course, lesson, membership and shop pages are built by bernard from your course and product settings, and they are rebuilt from scratch whenever anything changes. An edit typed into the page itself would be wiped the next time that happens, so the AI declines and goes to the settings instead. The change still gets made - it just gets made where it lasts, and it still waits on your approval like every other change.
- Which pages are these?
- Anything under Courses, your lesson pages, membership pages, your learner area, and your shop, product and collection pages. Everything else on your site - your home page, about page, contact page, blog posts, gallery pages - is yours to edit freely and nothing rebuilds it.
- How do I change the words on a course page then?
- Ask for the change in the ordinary way and let the AI go through the course. Say "change the description on my glazing course" or "rename lesson three" rather than "edit the courses page". It updates the course or lesson, and the page rebuilds with your new wording.
- Can I change how my course pages LOOK?
- Yes, and that one is a genuine file: a stylesheet called courses-theme.css that belongs to you and is never overwritten (shop pages have shop-theme.css). Just ask for the change - "make my course pages match the rest of my site", "use my brand green on the buy button" - and the AI puts it there.
- I asked for a change across my whole site and some pages were skipped. Why?
- A site-wide change - a business rename, a new phone number - goes through every page it can and skips the ones bernard builds, then tells you which ones it skipped. It isn't a failure: those pages take their wording from your course and product settings, so change it there and they follow.
- Can I delete a course page I don't want?
- Not as a file - it would come straight back on the next rebuild. Archive or delete the course itself and the page goes with it.
- What about my quizzes?
- Quizzes work the same way: the questions and the pass mark are settings, not page content, so the AI changes them at the source and the quiz page rebuilds. Ask for what you want - "add a quiz to my glazing lesson", "the answer to question two is wrong" - and it goes to the right place. Nothing reaches your learners until you approve it.
