How do I pause Bernard?

Sometimes you want everything to stop, not just one kind of work. Perhaps you are away, or something needs your full attention, or you simply want a quiet week. Pausing does that in one step.

The prompt

“Pause Bernard’s own work on this site until I say otherwise, and tell me what that changes.”

Where to pause Bernard

Open the setting panel from “Bernard may: [your setting] - Change” at the top of Bernard’s list on your site home, and choose Pause.

What pausing stops

While paused, your setting cannot allow any of Bernard’s own work, however much a kind of work has earned. In this build, Bernard already prepares every piece of work and waits for your approval before anything goes live, whatever your setting says, so pausing does not change today’s behaviour - it banks your choice for as each kind of work starts to earn more trust.

What does not stop

Pausing does not touch anything already live on your site, and it does not remove work Bernard had already prepared. It stays exactly where it was, waiting for you. You can still open Bernard’s list, look at anything he suggested, and act on it yourself while paused.

While you are paused

Bernard keeps reading your site and gathering findings in the background, so nothing is lost, but your setting cannot allow any of it to happen without you.

Resuming

Open the same panel and choose Resume. Bernard picks up at the setting you had before you paused. If your plans have changed, you can choose a different setting at the same time, including moving back to “Ask me first” if you would rather approve everything for a while.

Questions people ask

Where do I pause Bernard?
From the setting panel opened by “Bernard may: [your setting] - Change”, at the top of Bernard’s list on your site home.
What actually stops when I pause?
Your setting can no longer allow any of Bernard’s own work, even once a kind of work has earned it. Today, before you pause, Bernard already prepares everything and waits for your approval, so pausing keeps it that way for as long as you choose.
Do I lose the work Bernard already prepared?
No. Anything already prepared and waiting for your approval stays exactly where it was. Pausing stops new work from ever being allowed to happen on its own; it does not touch what is already there.
How do I turn Bernard back on?
Open the same panel and choose Resume. Bernard picks up at the setting you had before you paused, unless you choose a different one.
