Put your staff or member handbook in one private place

A handbook is a course of kind handbook: sections instead of lessons, read in order, living at /handbook/<its-handle>/ and saying “For our team” on its door.

The prompt

“Turn these policies into a staff handbook on my site: [list or paste]. For our team only, by invitation. Draft it.”

Setting it up

  1. Create it on your courses page with “What are you making?” set to Handbook, or ask Bernard.
  2. Write each policy or how-to as its own section (Add a lesson to my course). Group sections into parts if the handbook is long.
  3. Leave the introduction open to everyone if you want it findable.
  4. Set access to by invitation. Most handbooks need no term.
  5. Publish, then approve the draft.

Who can read it

Once you have approved the draft and the handbook is live, invite each member of staff or each member by email (Enrol a student myself - they paid elsewhere); they get a link, not a password (Let learners in without accounts or passwords). Invite nobody before you approve: the email goes at once, and the link would open a page that is not live yet. Remove someone when they leave and their access ends.

What a reader sees as they go

A section with a film or a recording shows the reader a tick once they have watched or listened to it, and the next section is offered when it ends. A written section is read, not tracked: it gets no tick and no next-section card. A handbook has no certificates and no quizzes. See Course, library, client hub or handbook - which to choose for the other kinds.
