Remove or change a redirect
A redirect sends visitors from an old address to a page that works. Your site may
have redirects from your move to bernard, and ones you asked for later, such as a
short link like /freebie. Over time some of them stop being right: the offer has
ended, or the old address should now go to a different page.
The prompt
“Show me all the redirects on my site. Then remove the one from [old address] - or, if I say so, send it to [new page] instead. Tell me what will happen to visitors who still use the old address.”

How it works
- Connect bernard to your AI (once). Log in to bernard, open your site, go to Use your own AI, and paste the setup prompt into your AI to connect it - a one-time setup.
- Ask for the list. Paste the prompt below into your AI - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, whichever you already use - or ask in your own words. It shows every redirect: the old address, where it goes, and whether it came from your move.
- Say what to change. Name the old address to remove, or the new page it should go to. The AI changes only that one redirect.
- Approve. The change waits on your draft until you approve it. Then type the old address into your browser to check it.
Before you remove one
A redirect from your move keeps an address from your old site working. Search engines and other websites may still use it. If you remove it, those visitors reach a missing page. If the page has a better home now, change where the redirect goes instead of removing it.
To add a new redirect for an address that no longer works, see A link on my site doesn’t work.
Questions people ask
- How do I see which redirects my site has?
- Ask the AI to list your redirects. It shows each old address, where it sends visitors, and whether it came from your move to bernard or was added later. It also says whether a change is waiting for your approval.
- How do I delete a redirect?
- Tell the AI which old address you no longer want redirected. It takes out that one redirect and leaves all the others as they are. Nothing changes on your live site until you approve.
- Can I send an old address to a different page instead?
- Yes. Tell the AI the old address and the new page. It changes the destination in one step, so you don’t need to delete the redirect first.
- What happens to visitors after I remove a redirect?
- Anyone who uses the old address - from a bookmark, an old leaflet or a search result - reaches a missing page, unless your site has a page at that address. Redirects made during your move keep links from your old site working, so remove those only when you’re sure nobody still uses them.
- Why can’t I see the change on the preview?
- The preview can’t show a redirect. After you approve, type the old address into your browser to check it.
