Change the name of my site
The name of your site is what you see in bernard, and what bernard uses in the emails it sends for you. You can change it at any time.
The prompt
“Rename my site [my site] to [the new name]. Tell me what changes, when it changes, and confirm that my web address stays the same.”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
Your web address does not change. It stays exactly as it is, and every link to your site keeps working. To change the address people type, connect your own domain on the Domain page of your site. See Connect my own web address (domain) to my site.
Rename it yourself
- Open your site from Home, then press its name to open the This site page.
- Press Rename, next to the name at the top.
- Type the new name and press Save name.
A name can be up to 120 characters of plain text, on one line. It cannot contain
<, > or \.
Or ask Bernard
Tell Bernard the new name. Bernard changes it straight away and tells you what changed.
What changes, and when
- bernard’s screens, and emails that read the name when they send: at once.
- An email already written, such as a drafted journey: it keeps the words it has. If it says the old name, ask Bernard to change it.
- Your shop, course and membership pages: bernard rebuilds them in your draft, and they change on your live site when you next publish.
- The words in your own pages: they stay as they are. If your header or a page title says the old name, ask Bernard to change it, then publish.
Questions people ask
- Does this change my web address?
- No. The name and the address are separate. Every link to your site keeps working, including your bernard address and any domain you have connected. To use your own web address, connect it on the Domain page of your site.
- I asked for my site to be called mybusiness.com. Is that my address now?
- No. You can call your site that, and it is a fair name, but it is only a name. A web address needs a domain connected to your site. See connect your own web address.
- Why does my homepage still show the old name?
- bernard does not change the words in your own pages, because it cannot be sure which words are the old name. Ask Bernard to change them in your header and page titles. That goes into your draft, and you publish it when you are happy.
- When do my shop and course pages change?
- bernard rebuilds your shop, course and membership pages in your draft in the background. They change on your live site when you next publish.
- Does the new name wait for my approval?
- The name itself does not: bernard’s screens use it at once, and so do emails that read the name when they send. Anything on your live site waits, because a page only changes when you approve a publish.
- Can I change it back?
- Yes. Rename it again at any time.
