Add a new site to my account

Adding a site is the same whether it is your first or your fifth: open Account and choose Add a new site. You get three routes, side by side.

The prompt

“I want to add another website to my bernard account. It lives at [web address], or it’s a new business called [business name]. Tell me what I’ll see, what happens next, and anything I should do first.”

Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).

Move a site you already have

  1. Choose Move my site.
  2. Paste the site’s web address, for example yourstudio.com.
  3. Press Move my site. Bernard checks the site first, which takes a moment.
  4. If he can move it, he takes you to the new site’s welcome page, where you can watch the pages come across. A small site is quick; a big one takes longer, and you can leave and come back.

Your old site is not touched. Bernard reads it to make his copy, and it keeps running exactly where it is. Your web address keeps pointing at the old site until you decide to switch it over, which Leave WordPress without breaking my email or losing my site and Leave Squarespace without breaking my domain or email walk through for the two most common places people are leaving.

When Bernard says no

He looks before he lifts, and he will turn a site down rather than move it badly. The reasons he gives are plain:

  • He can’t tell what it is built with, so he can’t promise to pack it safely.
  • It is behind a password. He can’t measure a site he can’t see.
  • It looks like a banking, payments or official login page. He won’t copy one of those, for everyone’s safety.
  • It is too big for one trip. The message has a Talk to us link, so we can work out with you how to bring it across.

If he has turned down a genuine site because it looked like a login page, the message has a get in touch link so we can check it.

If you paste an address you have already added, he says so and gives you a link to that site instead of making a second copy.

Start a brand-new site

No site to move? Choose Start from scratch, type the business name and press Start from scratch. You get a one-page starter to build from, either with Bernard in the workshop or with your own AI. I don’t have a website yet - build me one covers what to do next.

Copy one of your sites

Already run a site on bernard and want a new one that starts from it? Choose Copy one of my sites, pick the site and give the new one a name. Bernard copies its pages, styling, photos and style into a new site that nobody can see until you approve it. Start a new site from one I already run covers what comes across and what stays behind.

If you already have a site

Every plan covers one site, whatever its size. If your account already has one, the Add a new site section first offers room for another. It goes onto the plan you already have, on the same renewal date, and the form appears as soon as it is on. Run a second site on the same account explains the price and what happens if you ever end up running more sites than your plan covers.

After it has moved in

Your new site sits in the same account as everything else. Switch between your sites from the sites menu. Every change you or your AI make waits on a preview for you to approve before it goes live, exactly as on your first site. When you are ready for visitors to see it at your own address, Connect my own web address (domain) to my site shows you how.

Questions people ask

Where do I add a new site?
Open Account and choose Add a new site. You get three choices side by side: Move my site, where you paste the web address of a site you already have, Start from scratch, where you type a business name and get a one-page starter, and Copy one of my sites, where you pick one of your bernard sites to start from. Nothing goes live until you approve it.
Does adding a site change my old website?
No. Bernard only reads your old site to make a copy. It keeps running exactly where it is, and your web address keeps pointing at it, until you choose to connect that address to the new site. Nothing you then change on bernard goes live until you approve it.
Why did Bernard turn my site down?
He checks every site before he starts and says no when he can’t move it safely: when he can’t tell what it is built with, when it sits behind a password, when it looks like a banking or login page, or when it is bigger than he can carry in one trip. For a site that is too big, or one you think he has misjudged, the message has a link to email us and we will look at it with you.
I don’t see the form, just a price. Why?
Every plan covers one site, so once you have one, the Add a new site section offers room for another first. It goes onto the plan you already have, on the same renewal date. Once it is on, the form appears in the same place.
