Copy a design you've seen

Everyone has a site they envy — a look that feels calm, or expensive, or exactly right for what they do. You don't need to describe it in designer words. On a bernard-hosted site, you screenshot it, hand the picture to your AI, and say make mine feel like this.

How it works

  1. Connect bernard to your AI (once). Log in to bernard, open your site, go to Use your own AI, and paste the setup prompt into your AI to connect it — a one-time setup.
  2. Screenshot the look you love. The exact view that caught your eye — the top of a homepage, a beautiful section. Attach it to the chat with the prompt below.
  3. Approve. The AI reads the picture, says back what it sees — "warm cream, big serif headings, lots of air" — restyles your homepage in that language, and shows you before-and-after pictures. Say yes and it carries the look across the rest of your site; nothing goes live until you press Approve.

Your words, your photos and your logo stay exactly as they are — what changes is the dress: the palette, the type, the spacing, the shapes of the sections. And if the new look is a keeper, the AI can remember it as your style, so every future change stays in keeping with it.

New colours deserve a matching tab icon — see Get a proper icon in the browser tab — and if the restyle ever goes somewhere you didn't mean, Put it back how it was undoes it.

The prompt

Here's a screenshot of a design I love [attach it]. Make my site feel like this — the colours, the type, the spacing — but keep all my words, photos and logo exactly as they are. Show me the homepage before doing the rest.

Press Copy, then paste it into your AI and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard first — a one-time setup in bernard → your site → Use your own AI.

Questions people ask

Can AI copy another website's design for me?
It can borrow the *style* — the colours, the typefaces' feel, the spacing, the general shapes of the layout. It won't (and shouldn't) copy the other site's logo, images or wording: those belong to someone else, and your site keeps your own content throughout. Think 'dressed in that language', not 'a copy of that site'.
What should I screenshot?
The exact view that made you stop — usually the top of the homepage. One good screenshot of the part you love beats a link to the whole site, because it tells the AI precisely which look you mean. You can send more than one if a couple of pages caught your eye.
What if I don't like the result?
Nothing is published until you look at the preview and press Approve. The AI shows you the restyled homepage first, as pictures, before touching the rest of your site — so a wrong direction costs you one look, not a rebuild. Reject it, describe what's off, and try again; bernard keeps a full year of history either way.
Will my whole site change, or just one page?
Homepage first, deliberately. Once you've seen it and said yes, the AI rolls the same look across your other pages so everything matches — and it can remember the new look as your style, so future changes keep to it.
