Can I change just one thing Bernard does, without changing my whole setting?
Your overall setting is the default target for everything Bernard looks after. Sometimes you want almost all of it, except for one kind of work you would rather keep a closer eye on, or one kind you are happy to let go further than the rest.
The prompt
“Show me the full list of things Bernard can look after on this site, so I can move just [the row I want] up or down on its own.”

Where to find it
Beside your setting, there is a quieter link: “Change one thing”. It opens a table of every kind of work Bernard can look after, grouped by area - your website, your search results, courses, your shop - with a column for what your overall setting currently means for each row.
Changing a single row
Pick any row and move its target up or down, independently of your overall setting. For example, you might keep your setting at “Do the routine things” everywhere, but choose “Get on with it” for one kind of course work you have read plenty of drafts for and trust.
Or the other way round: you might choose “Get on with it” everywhere, but keep one row, such as a social post, at “Ask me first”, because you would rather see every one before it goes anywhere.
It is a target, not a switch
Changing a row does not make that work happen automatically today. Bernard still prepares every piece of work and waits for your approval, whatever the row says. What you are setting is where that kind of work is heading, once it has earned the trust to work that way.
Your changes stay
Single-row changes are kept even when your overall setting moves. If you later move from “Do the routine things” to “Get on with it”, the row you changed by hand keeps your choice rather than jumping to whatever the new setting would otherwise mean. Your setting panel makes this plain, showing something like “Get on with it, with 1 change”, so you always know what is different from the standard setting.
Why this matters
Not every business wants the same shape of help. A course business might want lesson work handled quickly but keep a closer eye on emails to students; a shop might want the opposite. Changing one thing lets your setting match how your business actually works, without giving up the simplicity of a single overall setting.
Questions people ask
- Where do I find the full list?
- Open the panel from “Bernard may: [your setting] - Change” at the top of Bernard’s list, then choose “Change one thing”. It opens a table of every kind of work, grouped by area, with your setting for each row.
- Does changing one row make it happen automatically today?
- No. Whatever a row says, Bernard still prepares that work and waits for your approval today. Changing a row chooses the target for that one kind of work, separately from your overall setting, for once it has earned the trust to work that way.
- What happens to my single-row changes if I move my overall setting?
- They stay. If you move your overall setting from “Do the routine things” to “Get on with it”, any row you set by hand keeps your choice rather than following the new setting.
- How do I know I have any single-row changes in place?
- Your setting panel says so plainly, for example “Get on with it, with 1 change”, so you always know what is different from the standard setting.
