How do I choose what Bernard works towards?

Bernard finds a lot he could work on. A goal tells him what to work on first, and what to measure, so his effort points where you need it.

The prompt

The six goals

  • Improve your Google rankings - search health, pages that do not yet answer searches you already appear for, links between your pages, and useful new content. This is a direction, not a promise: Bernard reports the positions Google Search Console actually records for you.
  • Get more enquiries or bookings - pages people book from, broken paths to your contact form, and enquiries that are waiting for a reply.
  • Sell more courses - course pages, questions from people thinking of joining, and moving students on to the next course.
  • Help more students finish - students who stopped, lessons and quizzes that slow people down, and missing course material.
  • Sell more from the shop - product pages, stock, and repeat buyers.
  • Keep the site healthy - broken links, out-of-date details, speed, accessibility, and connections that stopped working. Every site starts here, until you choose something else.

Adding your own words

Each goal has room for up to 200 characters in your own words, such as “Rank better for reflux training” or “Sell more of the baby massage kits”. It is optional, and it helps Bernard understand exactly what you mean by the goal you picked.

Where to change it

Look for the line “Working towards: [your goal] - Change goal” at the top of Bernard’s list on your site home. Choosing a new goal ends the old one; its history stays, so you can always see what Bernard was working towards before.

What a goal does not do

A goal never lets Bernard do more on his own. It only changes what he works on first and what he measures. Whatever you choose, every piece of work he prepares still waits for your approval, exactly as it does today.

Questions people ask

What can I choose as a goal?
Improve your Google rankings, get more enquiries or bookings, sell more courses, help more students finish, sell more from the shop, or keep the site healthy - the goal every site starts with.
Does choosing a goal let Bernard do more on his own?
No. The goal only changes what Bernard works on first and what he measures. Whatever your goal, everything he prepares still waits for your approval, the same as before.
Can I add my own words to a goal?
Yes. Every goal has room for up to 200 characters of your own target, such as “Fill the October Level 4 cohort”. Bernard uses it to understand what success looks like for you.
What happens to the old goal if I change it?
It ends, and its history stays. You can see what Bernard was working towards before, and when you changed it.
