Leave a note on your page for Bernard

Some changes are easiest to explain on the spot. In Bernard’s workshop you can click anything on your site and leave a note exactly where you mean it - on a heading, a button, a photo, even a single word. The chat is still there for asks about the whole site.

The prompt

“[Click the spot on your page, then type] Make this [what you want, e.g. stand out more] - and keep it in the same style as the rest of the page.”

Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).

How it works

  1. Open the workshop. Your draft is in the preview beside the chat. Want more room? Wide screen hides the chat; press it again to bring the chat back.
  2. Click the spot. A small box opens right where you clicked. Its top line says where you are - for example Classes › Button “Book a wheel class” - so you know Bernard will see the same thing you do.
  3. Write your note. Leave Send to Bernard ticked to ask him, or untick it for a note to yourself or your team. Press Send (or Save note). A numbered pin stays on the spot.
  4. Bernard answers on the spot. His reply appears in the same box while he works. If he changes something, your preview updates and his reply says so, with Undo if you want it back.
  5. Resolve when you are happy. The pin goes away; the conversation stays, and you can reopen it. The panel beside the chat lists every comment on the page, and Bernard’s changes join the others waiting for your approval.

Comment on an area

Some notes are about a part of the page, not one thing in it - “this whole section feels crowded”. Press Comment on an area above the preview and drag a box over that part (or hold Shift and drag at any time). The comment box opens at the corner of your box and lists what it covers, so you can check Bernard will look at the same things you mean. The dashed box shows again each time you open the note.

Change it yourself

You do not have to ask for small things. Double-click any heading, paragraph, button or link to type over it, right on the page - see Can I just edit the text or swap a photo right there on the page?. On a photo, choose Swap to pick a different picture from your library. If the spot has a pin, its note records what you changed. If Bernard is in the middle of something, your edit waits a moment and saves when he finishes.

Good to know

  • One thing at a time: if you send two notes quickly, or ask in the chat while he answers a note, Bernard finishes one, then starts the next.
  • Undo only takes back Bernard’s most recent change on your draft. If you changed something after it, use your version history instead.
  • Everyone on your account sees the same notes.
  • If a note’s spot has gone (you deleted it, or Bernard rebuilt that part), the list shows it as Moved or removed. Press Put back, then click its new spot. Press Esc to stop.

Questions people ask

Can I just leave a note without asking Bernard to do anything?
Yes. Untick Send to Bernard before you save, and it is a plain note for you or your team. A note costs nothing and Bernard does not read it.
What does it cost when I send a note to Bernard?
Sending a note to Bernard uses shells in the same way as asking him in the chat. Each spot is its own conversation, so replies on that spot carry on the same piece of work. Plain notes cost nothing.
Does Bernard change my live site?
No. Everything Bernard does lands on your draft. You see it straight away in the preview, and nothing goes live until you approve and publish it. If you do not like a change, press Undo on his reply.
What happens to a note if I delete the thing it was on?
The note is kept. It shows as Moved or removed in the list of comments beside the chat, so you can still read it and resolve it. Press Put back beside it, then click the spot where it belongs now (or draw a box), and the note moves there with its whole conversation.
Can I comment on a whole area instead of one thing?
Yes. Press Comment on an area above the preview, or hold Shift, and drag a box over the part you mean. Bernard sees everything inside the box, and the box comes back whenever you open the note.
