Cut a wrong line out of a lesson recording

A long recording with one wrong line does not need a re-record. On a bernard-hosted course, your AI can take that line out of the middle and join the rest into one file, so your students press play once and never hear it.

The prompt

“In the [lesson name] lesson of my [course name] course, cut the line “[the words to remove]” out of the recording. Show me exactly what would go before you do it.”

Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).

How it works

  1. Connect bernard to your AI (once). Log in to bernard, open your site, go to Use your own AI, and paste the setup prompt into your AI to connect it.
  2. Say which words should go. Name the lesson and the line. Your AI finds it and reads back the words it would remove, the words either side and the new length. Nothing changes yet.
  3. Say yes. The new recording renders in the background and takes the place of the old one. Captions, transcript and chapters are made again, and any translated subtitles are re-run.

What it can and cannot do

  • It works on audio and video, on a lesson’s main recording and on any additional one.
  • You can remove up to 20 stretches in one go. Doing them together uses less of your allowance than one at a time, because the captions are only made again once.
  • It handles up to an hour of playing time at once. For a longer recording, see Turn one long video into a proper course.
  • It only works on files hosted with bernard, not on videos embedded from another site.
  • A still picture you chose is replaced, so choose it again afterwards (see Choose the still picture on a lesson video).

Each cut keeps the earlier recording so that you can undo it.

Questions people ask

Do I need to find the exact second?
No. Give your AI the words. It finds them in the recording and shows you what would go, with the words either side, before anything changes.
What if I say the same line twice in the recording?
Your AI tells you each place it is spoken and asks which one to remove.
Can I undo it?
Yes. Ask your AI to undo the last cut and the old recording goes straight back, with its captions and search. Anything you changed on that recording since the cut, such as a trim, goes back too. You can step back through your last three cuts. Your first upload is kept as well.
What happens to my captions and chapters?
They are made again from the new recording, which uses some of this month’s transcription allowance. Corrections you made by hand to the captions need making again, and your AI tells you how many before you agree. If your allowance would run out, your AI says so and the old recording stays on the lesson.
When do my students get the new version?
As soon as the render finishes, usually within a few minutes. Course changes do not wait for you to approve a draft, so read what will go before you say yes.
Can I put a new sentence in where the old one was?
Not yet. This takes words out and joins what is left. To add something, record it as a short extra video on the same lesson.
