Put more than one video on the same lesson
Most lessons want one video. Some want two: the teaching, and then the doing. You explain how to hold the brush for three minutes, and then there is a ninety-second clip of you actually holding it. Splitting those into separate lessons puts a click and a syllabus row between two halves of one idea.
So a lesson can carry several videos on one page.
How it works
- Add the video to the lesson you already have. Upload it or paste a link, and say it is a second video on that lesson rather than a replacement for the one already there.
- Say where it goes. By default it lands under your written notes. If it belongs beside a particular paragraph, say so - "put the demonstration right after the bit about wedging the clay" - and it plays there (Put the video further down the lesson, next to the bit it demonstrates).
- Approve. As with every change, learners see it when you say so.
The first video is still the lesson's video
This is the part worth holding on to. One video on the lesson is the lesson's video: its running time is the one your syllabus shows, its transcript is the one that opens on the page, and its position is the one a learner comes back to when they pick the lesson up again. The others are additional videos on the same page.
That is a deliberate choice rather than a gap. A lesson is one thing a learner works through, and it needs one answer to "how long is this" and one answer to "where was I". If the second video really wants its own running time and its own place in the course, it wants to be its own lesson (Add a lesson to my course).
Everything else is even-handed. Each video gets its own captions and transcript, its own chapters, its own hover previews, and searching your lessons takes a learner to the right one (Where do I say that? Search inside my own lessons).
Two videos, or two lessons?
Two lessons when a learner would reasonably do one and come back tomorrow for the other. Two videos when watching the second without the first would make no sense.
Worth knowing: five videos on a lesson is the default ceiling, and it is about the page rather than the teaching - every video has its links prepared each time the page opens, so a page carrying a stack of them is slower for the learner than the same material split over two lessons.

- Can I have two videos in one lesson?
- Yes. Ask for another video on the same lesson and it sits on the same page, below your notes by default or beside whichever paragraph you point at. The first video stays the lesson's video - it is the one the syllabus shows a running time for, the one the transcript panel opens on, and the one a learner picks back up where they left off.
- Should I use two videos or two lessons?
- Two lessons when each video is a step of its own that a learner would tick off separately - each gets its own place in the syllabus, its own transcript and its own progress. Two videos on one lesson when the second supports the first rather than following it: a demonstration of the technique you just explained, a worked example, a longer follow-along for people who want it.
- Where does the second video appear on the page?
- After your written notes, in the order you added them, unless you say otherwise. Tell Bernard which paragraph it belongs to and it plays right there instead - the same way you can move the main video down the page.
- Do the extra videos get captions and a transcript?
- Yes. Every video on a lesson goes through the same processing - captions, transcript, chapters, hover previews - and each one keeps its own. Searching your lessons finds moments in any of them and takes a learner to the right player, not just the first one.
- How many videos can one lesson have?
- Five by default. It is a limit on page weight rather than a rule about teaching: every video on the page has to have its playback link, captions and previews prepared each time someone opens the lesson, so a page stacked with videos gets slow for the learner. If you genuinely need more, ask - the limit is something bernard can raise.
- What happens to the video that is already there if I add another?
- Nothing. It stays exactly where it is, with its captions, transcript and chapters. Adding a video no longer replaces one - if you actually mean to swap the lesson's video for a different file, say replace and bernard will tell you which one it is about to remove first.
- Do my learners see the new video straight away?
- No. Like every change, it lands in your site's private draft and learners see it only after you approve it. So you can add a demonstration, look at the lesson page with both videos on it, and decide.
