What do filled, checked and out of date mean in my brain?
Every document in your brain has a state. bernard shows it when it reads your brain back.
The prompt
“Which documents in my brain are missing, not checked or out of date, and which should I look at first?”

| State | Means |
|---|---|
| Missing | Nothing written yet |
| Filled | Written, but nobody has checked it - usually a draft from bernard’s survey |
| Checked | You confirmed or corrected it, on the date shown |
| Declined | You chose not to answer; bernard stops asking |
| Out of date | Not checked for a while, so it may no longer be true - an offer after six months, a content plan after two |
Depth
bernard also shows how deep your brain is: for each part of it, how many documents are filled and how many are checked. The public part - your website - fills first, from bernard’s survey. The deeper parts - how you work, your methods - fill from your answers over time.
The one thing that helps most
One real correction is worth more than a page of drafted text. When you correct a document, bernard marks it checked. See How do I correct something bernard has got wrong about my business?.

Questions people ask
- Why does checked matter if a document is already filled?
- Filled means bernard or someone wrote it. Checked means you confirmed it. A drafted document that nobody corrected is only a guess, so bernard treats checked documents as the ones to rely on.
- How do I mark a document checked?
- Correct something in it through bernard. When you approve a change, bernard marks that document checked by you, with today’s date.
- Can I say I would rather not answer?
- Yes. Tell bernard and it records that you declined, so it stops asking. A declined document is answered, not empty.
