Where do I say that? Search inside my own lessons
An hour of video is wonderful teaching and a terrible filing cabinet. You know you explained the thing — somewhere, in some lesson, two courses ago — but finding it means scrubbing through footage at double speed. Once your lessons have transcripts (Captions and transcripts, written for me), that problem is over: your teaching is searchable, like text, because now it is text.
How it works
- Ask the question the way you'd say it. "Where do I talk about glaze thickness?" — from your courses page, or by asking Bernard. You get back the lesson and the moment, with the words you actually said.
- Jump to the minute. Open the lesson and you're at the spot — no scrubbing, no re-watching from the top. It doesn't have to end there, either — the moment can become a clip (Turn a lesson into a shareable clip).
- Your learners have the same power. Every lesson's transcript has a find box, so "she covered this somewhere" becomes a ten-second lookup instead of an abandoned session.
It's useful beyond remembering. Checking whether you already cover a topic before recording a new lesson (Put my own video file into a lesson); finding the five clear minutes on one subject that deserve to become a post (Write a blog post from my notes); noticing that a subject you mention in three lessons has earned a lesson of its own (Add a lesson to my course). Your recorded teaching stops being a pile of files and starts behaving like a body of work.

- Can I search inside my own course videos?
- Yes. Because every uploaded video gets a transcript, your teaching is searchable like text. Ask where you cover a topic — 'where do I talk about pricing commissions?' — and you get the lesson and the moment, without re-watching anything.
- Can my learners search the lessons too?
- Yes — every lesson has a find box over its transcript. A learner who remembers you explaining something types a word, sees the matching lines, and clicks one to jump the video straight there.
- Does searching change anything on my site?
- No — searching is just reading; nothing drafts, nothing moves. If what you find prompts a change ('move that section into its own lesson'), that change works like every other: it drafts privately and goes live when you approve it.
- Can I do anything with the moment once I've found it, besides watching it?
- Yes — turn it into a short clip and take it with you (see the 'turn a lesson into a clip' page). Nothing about search itself needs approval; a clip render doesn't touch your live site either.
