Offer my membership monthly or yearly, and change the price
Some people want to pay a little each month. Others would rather pay once a year and forget about it, often for a lower total. Your membership can offer both, side by side, on one join page.
The prompt
“Give my [club name] membership two prices: [£ amount] a month and [£ amount] a year.”

Two prices, one membership
Tell Bernard the prices, for example “£25 a month or £250 a year”. The join page shows one button for each, and the visitor chooses. Both prices give exactly the same membership: the same courses, the same rooms, the same grace period if a card fails. Every payment goes to your own Stripe account, as before (Run a membership or paid community - people pay monthly for my courses).
A price every 3 months is possible as well. Ask for it by name; it is not offered unless you do.
When a member wants to switch
Members ask you, and you ask Bernard: “move jane@example.com to yearly”. Bernard tells you what happens before it does anything:
- Monthly to yearly happens straight away. The part of the month they have not used is taken off, and the yearly price is charged today.
- Yearly to monthly waits until the year they paid for has ended. Nothing is charged now; the first monthly payment comes when the year is up.
Their access carries on through the switch. Nobody is locked out while it happens.
Changing a price
A price people have already paid is never edited. When you change it, the new figure becomes a new version for new members, and you choose what happens to the people already paying:
- They stay on their price. New members pay the new one; current members keep what they joined at. This is the usual choice for a rise.
- They move now. The difference is added to their next payment.
- They move at their next renewal. Nothing changes until then.
Before anything changes, Bernard tells you how many members are in each group, for example “45 members stay on £25 a month; new members pay £30 a month”. Nothing moves until you approve.
If you stop offering one of the prices (only yearly from now on, say), the members on it stay on it. Moving one of them is a switch, as above.
Telling your members
Bernard sends no email about a price change. Tell your members yourself, in your own words. If people already paying will pay more, give them notice before it takes effect, so they can cancel first if they want to. The law on this varies; if you are unsure how much notice to give, check before you change anything.
After a change
The join page on your site updates as a draft, like every change, and the new price shows once you approve it. Until then the published page keeps showing the old prices, and a visitor who tries an old price is asked to reload the page.
Questions people ask
- Can members pay monthly or yearly?
- Yes. Give the membership both prices and the join page shows a button for each. Every 3 months is possible too, if you ask for it.
- What happens when a member switches?
- Monthly to yearly happens at once: the unused part of the month is taken off and the yearly price is charged. Yearly to monthly waits until the year they paid for ends. Their access does not stop either way. Bernard tells you what they pay and when, and switches them only after your approval.
- If I put the price up, do current members pay more?
- Only if you say so. You choose: they stay on the price they joined at, they move now, or they move at their next renewal. Bernard shows how many members are in each group and changes nothing until you approve.
- Does bernard tell my members about a price change?
- No. Bernard sends no email about it. Tell your members yourself, and give them notice before a rise reaches people already paying, so they can cancel first if they want to.
