Move my courses off LearnDash or WordPress
If your teaching lives in LearnDash, your courses are trapped inside a WordPress install you also have to feed and water. The good news: LearnDash can export the whole library — and bernard can read that export directly. How it works
- Export from WordPress. In your WordPress admin, use LearnDash's export to produce a single file of your courses. It contains the lot: courses, modules, lessons, quizzes, materials and image files.
- Hand it to the bernard team. The import reads your export, rebuilds each course you choose in bernard's own shape — same module structure, same lesson order, sub-lessons nested under their parent lessons (Understand how a course is put together, Organise a big course — modules, sub-lessons, many courses) — and copies worksheets and downloads off the old site into your own storage, attached to the right lessons (Give learners files with each lesson). Each course also arrives with a short summary on its card, drawn from your old course page.
- Courses that split by level split properly. If one LearnDash course served two qualification levels with different assessments, it becomes two clean courses — each with only its own level's assessment material, so a Level 3 learner can never wander into Level 4 instructions.
- Review and publish. Every imported course is a private draft. Walk it in your courses page, fix any wording that references the old platform, set a price if you're selling on-site (Charge once, or sell a year of access) — or leave it unpriced and enrol students yourself (Enrol a student myself — they paid elsewhere) — then publish when you're happy.
Videos keep playing from wherever they live today (YouTube, Vimeo or your video host) — and can be moved onto your own site later without touching the course structure (Put my own video file into a lesson).
One honest caveat: anything the import can't represent — an exotic quiz type, a broken link, a file it couldn't fetch — is listed in a report rather than silently dropped, so you know exactly what needs a human eye.

Questions people ask
- Can bernard import my LearnDash courses automatically?
- Yes. LearnDash can export your whole course library as a file (Tools → Export in WordPress). Hand that file over and bernard rebuilds every course you choose — modules, lessons, sub-lessons, notes, ordering and worksheets — as private drafts on your own site. You review each one before anything is visible.
- What happens to my course worksheets and downloads?
- Files hosted on your old WordPress site are copied into your own site's storage during the import, attached to the lessons that reference them, and served only to enrolled learners. Nothing keeps depending on the old site — so you can switch it off later without lessons losing their materials.
- What about my quizzes and assignments?
- Quiz and assignment pages come across as placeholders that hold their position in the syllabus — the teaching content around them is complete. Quiz-taking and assignment submission on bernard are on the way; until then, the placeholder tells learners what's coming and your assessment instructions import as normal lessons.
- Do imported courses go live straight away?
- No. Every imported course lands as a private draft — unpriced, unlisted, invisible to learners — and stays that way until you've reviewed it and chosen to publish. Nothing your students can see changes until you approve it.
