Organise a big course — modules, sub-lessons, many courses
A course with twelve modules and two hundred lessons is a filing problem as much as a teaching one. The syllabus editor is built for that scale — it works on the sections-and-lessons shape every course shares (Understand how a course is put together).
How it works
- Group lessons into sections. Name your modules and say what goes where — or drag things about on the courses page. Learners see the same modules on the course page, in the same order.
- Nest sub-lessons. A parent lesson can own a run of indented sub-lessons — the natural shape for a topic taught in short parts. Courses imported from LearnDash (Move my courses off LearnDash or WordPress) arrive with this nesting already in place.
- Collapse the noise. Fold sections and parent lessons you're not working on; each folded row shows what it contains ('Module 04 (17)'). 'Collapse all sections' turns a giant course into a one-screen outline.
- Hop between courses. Chips above the builder list every course — with a live/draft badge — so a multi-course catalogue is one click to navigate, not one page-load per course.
Reordering, renaming and regrouping all stay in your private draft until you approve them (Add a lesson to my course, Let people watch one lesson free) — so you can restructure a live course at leisure without learners watching the furniture move.

Questions people ask
- Can my course have modules or sections?
- Yes — lessons group under section headings ('Module 1: Foundations'), and learners see the same grouping on the course page. Ask for the grouping you want, or set it up on your courses page directly. Changes land in your private draft first, so learners only see the new shape once you approve it.
- Can a lesson have sub-lessons?
- Yes — a lesson can own a run of sub-lessons, indented beneath it in the syllabus: a topic split into short parts, or a knowledge-check that belongs to one lesson. Courses imported from LearnDash keep their lesson/topic nesting automatically.
- My syllabus is huge — how do I work on it without endless scrolling?
- Every section and every parent lesson collapses. Fold the whole course to its module headings (each shows its lesson count), open just the module you're editing, and use 'collapse all' to reset. The editing view is yours alone — collapsing changes nothing for learners.
- I teach several courses — how do I switch between them?
- Your courses page shows every course as a chip above the builder — click one to switch. Each chip shows whether that course is live or still a draft.
