Set the pass mark and how many retakes

Three settings decide how a knowledge check behaves. All three have sensible defaults, so you only need to touch the ones you disagree with.

The pass mark

A percentage: the score a learner has to reach. The default is 80 per cent.

It's worked out on the weight of the questions rather than how many there are - so if one question is worth five marks and the rest are worth one, the big question moves the result more (Change my quiz questions and answers). Questions that have no right answer, like a confidence question, aren't scored at all and don't count towards the total either way.

Some checks aren't about a score at all. If yours is really a "did you take part" step, say so and it's recorded as done on submission, with no pass mark involved.

Retakes

Unlimited, and the best attempt counts. A learner who scores 60, thinks about it, and comes back and scores 90 has a 90 on their record.

You can cap it - "three attempts" - but think about why first. A cap turns a teaching tool into an exam, and someone will eventually email you asking for their attempts to be reset.

What learners see after marking

By default, everything: which options they picked, which were right, and any line of feedback you wrote for that question. That's what makes a check worth sitting - the learner leaves knowing something they didn't know.

Two other settings exist for courses that need them: show the marking only once the learner has passed, or never show it. If your course is accredited, this is the one to check with your awarding body before you decide - bernard doesn't decide it for you.

Changing them

One sentence: "make the pass mark on my safe sleep quiz 75 per cent", "stop showing the answers on the final check". Like every change, it lands in your draft first and reaches your learners when you approve it. Nobody's existing result is recalculated - a pass stays a pass (Who marks my quizzes?).
