Bernard looks after things for you3 min read

Where can I see everything Bernard has found and done?

Bernard’s list on your site home is also his board: one place that shows what he has noticed on your site and what has happened to each thing since. Nobody has to keep it tidy. A card moves by itself when its state changes.

The prompt

“Explain the columns on Bernard’s board on my site home, and which one I should look at first.”

The four numbers

At the top of the board are four numbers: found, done by Bernard, waiting for you and did not work. Found, done and did not work count the last 30 days; waiting for you counts what is waiting today. Together they are an honest read of whether Bernard’s work is helping your site. The same numbers appear on your Analytics page (see What has Bernard’s work actually achieved?).

Press a number to see the cards behind it.

The columns

OpenYour list as you know it, with anything waiting for you at the top
FoundThings Bernard noticed
Waiting for youWork Bernard prepared that needs your yes
On holdWork with a time and a Stop button
Done by BernardWork he did on his own and checked on your live site
Done by youThings you fixed, published or ticked off yourself
Not for meThings you said no to, with what you chose
Did not workChanges that failed their check, and anything Bernard was wrong about

Every site starts at Ask me first, where Bernard changes nothing on his own. Every change still waits for your approval, so Done by Bernard stays empty and the work you approve shows under Done by you.

One card, one problem

Each card has a short title, one sentence of evidence from your own site, and a short history, such as “found 12 Sep, prepared 14 Sep”. Press See its history on a card of Bernard’s own work for every step, who took it, and a link to the change. If the same problem was found two ways, it is still one card, and it says so.

Saying no, with a scope

Not for me on a card asks how far you mean it:

  • Not now hides it for 30 days.
  • Remind me next season hides it for 90 days.
  • Reject this draft turns down one piece of prepared work, not the problem behind it.
  • Do not suggest this topic keeps that finding away for good.
  • Never do this kind of work tells Bernard not to offer that kind of work on your site again.

You can add a reason. Only an account owner can say no to work Bernard has prepared, or stop work that is waiting or on hold.

When something did not work

A change that failed its check, or a finding the evidence proved wrong, goes to Did not work, where it says so plainly (“Bernard was wrong about this”). It never quietly disappears.

Questions people ask

What are the columns on my board?
Found (things Bernard noticed), Waiting for you (work he prepared that needs your yes), On hold (work with a time and a Stop button), Done by Bernard (work he did on his own and checked live), Done by you (things you fixed or ticked off), Not for me (things you said no to) and Did not work. Open is the list you already know, with anything waiting for you at the top.
What do the four numbers at the top mean?
Found, done by Bernard, waiting for you and did not work. Found, done and did not work count the last 30 days. Waiting for you counts what waits today, however old it is. Press a number to open its column.
Why is Done by Bernard empty?
Because at Ask me first Bernard does nothing on his own: every change still waits for your approval, as it always has. Done by Bernard only fills when you let him do routine work himself, and only with work he has checked on your live site. Things you approved and published show under Done by you.
If I say Not for me, will it come back?
That depends on what you choose. Not now hides it for 30 days and Remind me next season for 90, then it comes back. Do not suggest this topic, and Never do this kind of work, keep it away until you change your mind.
What if the same problem is found twice?
It stays one card. When Bernard’s own plan and one of his checks point at the same problem, the card says it was found by both, so you never approve or refuse the same thing twice.
