What does Bernard do for my students on his own?

Running a course brings a stream of small jobs: a certificate that did not print, spam in your forum, a student question left overnight. Bernard can take some of these on, at the level you choose, while every decision that is really yours stays with you.

The prompt

“Tell me what you have done for my students on [my site] this week, and which student questions in my forum are waiting for me.”

What he can do on his own

Once you let Bernard do the routine things, and once each kind of work has earned it (you have said yes to it yourself a few times, and hardly any were undone), he can:

  • Print a certificate again when it failed to print. It is the same certificate, with the same number and the same check link. He checks afterwards that it printed and that nothing on it changed, and that no new certificate appeared.
  • Hide a forum post that members reported as spam. Only when the report says spam and at least two people made it. The post is hidden, never deleted, and he checks that no other post in the thread changed. You can put it back with one tap.

In the forum his actions show under the name of the person who answers for your courses (you, unless you named someone else), and the reason recorded says it was Bernard.

Answering student questions

When a student asks a question in your forum and your published lessons answer it, Bernard drafts a short reply from those lessons only. The reply starts with Answered by Bernard and ends with the lesson and the moment in its video, for example “at 4:32”.

A reply reaches your students only after your yes to those exact words, or, at “Get on with it”, after a hold that starts with an email to you and that you can stop. It is never done without warning, because a posted reply can be hidden afterwards but not unread.

Questions about health, feeding, sleep safety, medicine, safeguarding, the law, a certificate, an exam or a deadline are never drafted. Bernard shows you that a student is waiting, and you answer.

The setting behind this

This follows the one setting that governs everything Bernard does on his own: How Bernard looks after things for me covers the three levels, and What will Bernard never do without asking me first? lists what stays off limits at every level. To take back something he did, see How do I undo something Bernard did on his own?.

Questions people ask

Will Bernard answer a student’s health or care question?
No, never, at any level. A question about a baby’s or a person’s health, feeding, sleep safety, medicine, safeguarding, the law, or a certificate, exam or deadline is left for you. Bernard does not draft an answer to it: he shows it to you as a question that needs you.
Does Bernard post answers in my forum without asking?
Not without warning. At “Do the routine things” he drafts an answer from your own lessons and it waits for your approval of those exact words. At “Get on with it” he first emails you a notice with a Stop link, and posts only after the hold ends. Every answer is marked “Answered by Bernard” and names the lesson and the time in its video.
Will Bernard ever issue a certificate or give a student more time?
No. Issuing a certificate, and extensions or deadline changes, are never done on his own at any level. What he does is print again a certificate that already exists and failed to print, with the same number and check link.
Does he nudge students who have stopped?
Not yet on his own. When several students stop after the same lesson, he tells you which lesson and how many, and leaves out anyone you put on hold. Your course’s own automatic emails keep doing what you set them up to do.
