Use the same course emails on another version of my course
Many courses come in more than one version. A Level 3 and a Level 4 of the same subject, a short version and a full one, this year’s course and last year’s. The emails that follow students through them are mostly the same: well done on each module, a nudge before the last quiz, congratulations at the end.

You do not have to set them up twice. Set them up once on one course, then ask Bernard to copy them onto the other.
How to ask. Say which course to copy from and which course to copy to, for example “copy my Level 3 course emails onto Level 4”. Bernard copies every email with its words, its timing, its skip rules and its goal, and moves each one onto the other course:
- an email that starts when a student finishes a lesson is matched to the lesson with the same name on the new course;
- an email that starts when a student finishes a module is matched to the module with the same name;
- a skip rule, and a paragraph that shows only to some students, are moved the same way.
What Bernard tells you. You get the whole plan for the new course in plain English, and a list of anything it could not match. A lesson that exists only on one course is the usual reason. Bernard keeps that email as it was, and the copy cannot be switched on until you choose a lesson on the new course for it or take that email out. Ask Bernard to do either.
Before you switch it on. The copy is a draft, so nothing is sent. Read it through, change the wording where the two courses differ (the level, the number of modules), then approve it and switch it on. From then on each course has its own set, and a change to one does not change the other.

Questions people ask
- Can each course have its own set of these emails?
- Yes. Each course can have one set of emails that follow its students, and each set is separate. A student on two courses gets each course’s emails for that course.
- How does Bernard know which lesson is which on the other course?
- By name. A lesson called “Feeding basics” on one course is matched to the lesson with the same name on the other, whatever its web address. Modules are matched the same way. Capital letters do not matter.
- What if a lesson only exists on one of the courses?
- Bernard keeps that email as it was and tells you which lesson it could not find. The copy cannot be switched on until you choose a lesson on the new course for it, or take that email out.
- Does the copy start sending straight away?
- No. The copy is a draft. You read the plan, change anything you want, then approve it and switch it on. Nothing is sent before that.
- Can I copy onto a course that already has emails like these?
- No. A copy never replaces a course’s own emails. Change that course’s emails instead, or delete its draft first.
