Drag things into a new order
Sometimes the fastest way to say “put this one first” is to just pick it up and put it there. On a computer, in Bernard’s workshop, you can - for products on your shop page, and for photos in a grid or gallery where the picture order is the order visitors actually see.

What you can drag
Two things: a product card on your shop page, and an item in a photo grid or gallery where moving the picture would genuinely change what shows first (see Turn my photos into a gallery for building one). Dragging only works with a mouse or trackpad - on a phone or tablet, ask Bernard instead.
Not everything qualifies. Some grids decide where each picture goes with a rule of their own, not the order the pictures are saved in - dragging one wouldn’t move anything real, so Bernard tells you so on hover and won’t let you. And a collection page can’t be dragged either, because a collection is a slice of your shop: reorder the shop page itself and every collection follows.
How to drag
- Press on the card or photo you want to move, then move your mouse. Past a few pixels it lifts off the page, and its neighbours shift to make room as you drag over them.
- Drop it where you want it. Release the mouse and it settles into its new spot. Dropping it back where it started, or pressing Esc, or dropping outside the grid, cancels the move and changes nothing.
This works alongside pointing at things and asking Bernard in the chat (see Point at exactly what you want changed) - use whichever is quicker for the job in front of you.
What happens next
The new order saves to your draft the moment you drop it, with a quiet note in the chat - “You reordered the …” - so anyone checking the draft later can see what happened. Nothing changes for visitors until you approve the draft, the same as every other edit.
On the shop page, the running order you drag into place also drives every collection page and the product feed shops like Google read - and it sets your share image, since that’s your first product’s photo. If the page changes under you mid-drag - Bernard edits it, or a product goes live, while you’re dragging - the drop is refused with a plain message, and you just drag again.
Questions people ask
- Does dragging work on my phone?
- Not yet. Dragging only works with a mouse or trackpad, on a computer. On a phone or tablet nothing happens when you press and hold - just ask Bernard to do the reorder for you instead, in your own words.
- Why won’t this grid let me drag?
- Some grids decide where each picture sits with a rule of their own, not by the order the pictures are saved in - so dragging one wouldn’t actually move it for a visitor. Bernard tells you why when you hover, and won’t let you drag it. Ask Bernard to reorder it in the chat instead, and it’ll explain if that’s not possible either.
- Can I drag inside a collection?
- No. A collection is a subset of your shop, and dragging inside it would push those items to the very front of the whole shop, not just the collection. Reorder the shop page itself - the collection follows the same running order automatically.
- How do I undo a drag?
- On an ordinary page, restore an earlier version from your history - the drag is a draft change like any other. On your shop page it’s different: the order is stored data, not page content, so an old version won’t bring back an old order. Drag it back into place, or ask Bernard, then approve the result before it goes live.
- Does the order on my shop page change my share image?
- Yes. The photo that appears when your shop page is shared on social media is your first product’s photo, so moving a different product to the front changes it too.
