Enrol my ThriveCart buyers on my course automatically
If you sell your course through ThriveCart, you do not need to enrol each buyer yourself. Connect ThriveCart to bernard once, and every purchase enrols the buyer on the right course, the same way it would if you did it by hand (Enrol a student myself - they paid elsewhere).
The prompt
“Connect ThriveCart to [my site]. ThriveCart product [product number] should enrol buyers on [course name] and tag them [tag]. Tag refunds and cancellations [tag] and failed payments [tag].”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
What you decide
- Which product enrols on which course. ThriveCart gives each product a number. You tell Bernard which product number goes with which course. Order bumps, upsells and downsells have their own numbers, so each can enrol on a course, add a tag, or both.
- A tag for each purchase, if you want one, for example the name of the course or the level.
- A tag for a refund or a cancelled subscription, and a tag for a failed payment, if you want to follow those people up.
What happens on a sale
The buyer is enrolled, gets the course welcome email with their personal sign-in link, appears in your contacts, and starts any course emails you have switched on. If the course has a deadline rule, they get their deadline like any other student (Give my students a deadline to finish the course). If ThriveCart sends the same sale twice, bernard enrols them once.
A refund, a cancellation or a failed payment only adds the tag you chose. bernard never takes course access away by itself; do that by hand if you want to. Abandoned carts stay in ThriveCart.
The buyer is not added to your mailing list. bernard did not see them agree to your marketing emails, so your campaigns skip them until they sign up on one of your bernard forms.
Setting it up
- Ask Bernard in the Workshop, for example “connect ThriveCart so product 12 enrols buyers on my Level 4 course”.
- Bernard asks for your ThriveCart secret word, which ThriveCart shows in its settings for webhooks and notifications. bernard uses it to check that each message really comes from your ThriveCart account.
- Bernard shows you what each sale will do and waits for your approval. Only the account owner can approve it.
- You get an address, shown once. Paste it into ThriveCart as a webhook address. ThriveCart checks it on the spot.
Ask Bernard any time what ThriveCart has sent: it lists the last 20 messages, what each did, and why any was ignored, for example a product you have not matched yet. Other tools can use the same address through Zapier: Let another tool add people to my contacts, tag them or enrol them.
Questions people ask
- What happens when someone buys?
- bernard enrols them on the course you matched to that ThriveCart product, exactly as if you had enrolled them by hand: they get the welcome email with their sign-in link, they appear in your contacts, and any course emails you have switched on start. If the product has a tag, they get that too.
- What about bumps, upsells and payment plans?
- Each ThriveCart product can be matched on its own, including an order bump, an upsell or a downsell, so a bump can enrol on a second course or just add a tag. A payment plan enrols on the first purchase.
- What happens on a refund or a cancelled subscription?
- If you chose a cancellation tag, the buyer gets it. bernard does not take their course access away on its own. If you want to, remove it by hand.
- And a failed payment?
- If you chose a failed-payment tag, the buyer gets it, so you can follow up. Nothing else changes.
- Does cart abandonment come across?
- No. Abandoned carts stay in ThriveCart, so keep any abandoned-cart emails there.
- Who can set it up?
- Only the account owner. Bernard shows you, product by product, what each ThriveCart sale will do in bernard, and switches nothing on until you approve it.
- Are ThriveCart buyers added to my mailing list?
- No. bernard did not see them agree to your marketing emails at the checkout, so they arrive without permission to market to them. The course welcome email still goes. They can join your list on one of your bernard forms.
