How do I let someone into my community?

Letting someone into your community forum takes one sentence. Tell Bernard the name and email, and it does the rest.

The prompt

Invite [name], [email], to my community forum.

Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).

What happens

  1. Bernard finds or creates the person in your contacts. If they are new, they are added with the kind “community”.
  2. Their forum access is recorded as “invited” with the role you chose (member by default, or moderator or read-only if you said so).
  3. One sign-in email goes out. The person clicks the link, agrees to the community rules on their first visit, and they are in.

The once-a-day rule

Bernard sends one sign-in email per person per day. If you ask again the same day - or if the person asks through the sign-in page - nothing new is sent. The earlier email is the one to use.

Roles

  • member (default) - can read, post and reply.
  • moderator - can also remove posts and lock threads.
  • read-only - can browse every thread but cannot post or reply.
  • admin - reserved for people who are members of your bernard account.

You can change a role later: see Can someone help me moderate?.

One person at a time

This tool invites one person per call. Bernard tells you that an email will be sent before it sends it, so you can check the address.

Questions people ask

Does the person get an email straight away?
Yes. Bernard tells you what it will send and waits for your approval. Once you confirm, one sign-in email goes out. They click the link, agree to the community rules once, and they are in. No password to make up.
What if I send the invite again by mistake?
Only one email per person per day. A second ask the same day sends nothing - Bernard tells you the earlier email is the one to use.
Can I invite someone as read-only?
Yes. Add the role when you ask: ‘Invite Sarah as read-only.’ They can browse and read every thread but cannot post or reply.
Does the person need to be a paying member?
Not necessarily. The forum invite is separate from a membership subscription. You decide who gets in.
