Someone bought something — what do I do now?

The first sale is a small ceremony: two emails go out at the same moment. The buyer gets a receipt — order number, what they bought, and for anything digital, working download links. You get a "you made a sale" note with what sold, who bought it, and a link to your orders page. The money is already in your Stripe account by the time you read it.

Your orders page

Every sale lives on your dashboard under your site → Orders — what was bought, the postage charged (How do I charge for postage?), the buyer's email, and whether it still needs posting. You can also just ask: "any orders I haven't posted yet?"

The one job left: post it

Digital things and course enrolments deliver themselves. A physical order has one human step, and it's yours: wrap it, post it, then mark the order shipped on the orders page — add a line like "posted first class, should be with you Thursday" if you like. The buyer gets an "it's on the way" email the moment you do. That note is the difference between a buyer who wonders and a buyer who comes back.

When something goes wrong

Refunds happen in your own Stripe dashboard, because the money is yours — bernard notices the refund and updates the order (and switches off any download links it granted) without you touching the site. A buyer who lost their receipt can be pointed at the email address they paid with; digital links live in the receipt itself.

Sell a one-off piece and it marks itself sold the moment it's bought — stock counts down on its own, so the shop never sells what's gone.

The prompt

Show me my recent orders and tell me if any still need posting.

The [bracketed] parts are yours to fill in. First time? Connect bernard to your AI over MCP — a one-time setup in bernard → your site → Use your own AI — then paste the prompt above.

Questions people ask

Does the buyer get a receipt automatically?
Yes. The moment payment goes through, the buyer gets an emailed receipt with the order number and what they bought — and for anything digital, their secure download links are right in it. You don't send anything.
Where does the money actually go?
Straight to your own Stripe account, minus Stripe's card fee — bernard takes no cut and never holds it. Payouts to your bank run on the schedule in your Stripe dashboard, typically every few days.
What if I need to refund an order?
Refund it from your own Stripe dashboard — the payment is yours, so the refund is too. Your bernard order updates itself to refunded, and any download links it granted stop working. Your shop pages don't change, so there's nothing to re-approve.
