Can I use a photo or a film I made on my phone or in another app?

You took the photo on your phone, or made the film in another app, and now you want it on a post. You do not need to send it to anyone or upload it twice: the post’s Picture section is a window onto your media library, and it has its own upload.

The prompt

“I made a [photo or short film] for my [Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook] post on [day]. Help me put it in my media library and on that post.”

Upload it from the post

  1. Open the post on your calendar and press Change.
  2. In Picture, the first tile is Upload to the library. Tap it and pick the file from your phone or computer.
  3. Bernard adds the file to your media library (the same library as Image gallery) and chooses it for this post. You see the words “uploaded to your library (Image gallery) and chosen”. Give it a title or tags on the Library page, or ask Bernard to, and the library’s search finds it again.
  4. What goes out, on the left, shows the photo as it will post. On Instagram, step 2 lets you pick the crop: 4:5, 1:1, or fit to keep the whole photo.
  5. Press Save, then Schedule when you are happy with it.

A social post takes up to ten photos, in the order you tap them, or one film. Files you upload are yours, so they arrive in the library already marked as yours and approved for use. Upload files and video to my site has the size limits for photos and films.

Find it again later

Every photo you choose for a post comes from the same library, with the library’s own search and filters: Search title or description, Filter by tag, Brand kit only, and the collections you made. Bernard’s picks for the post are starred first: he finds them by searching your library for the post’s own words, and he never invents a picture. What does Bernard do about my social posts? explains the rest of the post.

Or ask your assistant

If the file is on a website or in a shared folder, give your assistant the link and ask it to bring the file into your media library, then to put it on the post. An assistant can also upload a file you give it. Either way it lands in the same library, and the post still waits for you: nothing goes out until you press Schedule.

Questions people ask

Will it post as soon as I upload it?
No. It waits in your media library until you choose it on a post and press Schedule, and Schedule is your approval of that post with that picture.
Do I upload it twice, once to the library and once to the post?
No. Upload to the library adds it to your media library and chooses it for the post in one step. The same file then shows in Image gallery and the Library page.
Can I use a film?
Yes, on a social post. A film is posted on its own, so choosing one takes the photos off that post, and choosing a photo afterwards takes the film off. Bernard prepares the film before you schedule it.
What if I change the picture after I scheduled the post?
The post needs Schedule again, so your earlier approval never covers a picture you did not see.
