What file types can I upload?
The short answer: photos, business documents and video - the things a visitor might actually look at. Here’s the full list, and what to do when a file isn’t on it.

Your site’s own allowance is on your Library page. Those per-site figures are the standard ones and a site can be given its own (How much room does my site have - and what’s using it?); the per-file limits above are the same for everybody.

What’s refused, and why
Programs and archives (EXE, ZIP, RAR and friends) - refused for your visitors’ safety. If the things you want to share are inside a ZIP, unpack it and upload the files themselves.
Web code as an upload (HTML, JavaScript) - your pages are edited through Bernard, not uploaded around him; that’s what keeps every change previewed and approved. Just ask for the change you want.
A note on video
Video uploaded this way plays exactly as you filmed it - no captions, no processing. That’s right for a homepage clip; for teaching, upload the video on your course page instead, where it also gets captions, a transcript and chapters (Put my own video file into a lesson shows how). Questions people ask
- Can I upload a Word document or a spreadsheet?
- Yes - Word, Excel and PowerPoint files (and their OpenOffice cousins), plus PDF, CSV and plain text. They’re stored with your site and linked from any page you choose; placing the link is a draft change you approve before it goes live.
- Why won’t it take my ZIP file?
- Archives, programs and web-code files are refused on purpose - a visitor’s browser can’t safely open them from your site, and they’re the classic way something nasty sneaks in. Unpack the archive and upload the files you actually want people to see.
- What about audio - voice notes, recordings, podcast episodes?
- Yes - MP3, M4A and WAV files upload like everything else. An audio file can play right on a page, and Bernard can transcribe a recording into text when you ask, ready to become website copy you approve before it goes anywhere.
