Upload files and video to my site
Your price list, your brochure, the menu you just reprinted, the little film of your studio - they belong on your site, and getting them there shouldn’t involve a web developer. On a bernard-hosted site, uploading is drag-and-drop, and placing is one ask.

Three ways in
- Your Library page. Drag in photos, documents and videos - as many as you like, straight from your phone or camera. Photos join your library already marked as yours and approved for use; documents and videos are kept with the site and give you a link Bernard can place anywhere.
- The workshop’s Image gallery tab. Same drop zone, and the tab is a window onto your library pinned to the site you’re working on - new photos appear as cards the moment they land, with the same search, download and archive housekeeping as the Library page.
- The chat itself. Attach a file to your message - “here’s the new price list, put it on the services page” - and Bernard stores it and places it in one conversation. Works from a connected AI app too: give it a link to the file and it fetches it for you.
What happens to each kind of file
Photos become cards in your library - titled, searchable, and ready to place on any page (Add a photo to any page covers the placing).
Documents - a PDF price list, a booking form, a term sheet - are stored with your site and linked from wherever you want: “add a Download our price list link under the pricing table.” Visitors click, the file opens.
Video plays right on the page, exactly as you filmed it, with the browser’s own player. That’s deliberate: page video is for a welcome clip or a studio tour, not a course. If the video is a lesson, upload it on your course page instead - that route also writes captions, a searchable transcript and chapters (What can I do with my videos? is the map).
Every video you upload also gets its own still picture - the frame a visitor sees before they press play. bernard takes it out of the film itself, a moment in rather than the very first frame, because films often open on black and a black rectangle looks like something broken. It appears within a minute of the upload finishing. If you’d rather show a different moment, just say so - “use the bit where I’m holding the mug, about twelve seconds in” - or point at a photo you already have and he’ll use that instead.
Audio - a voice note, an interview, an episode - can play on a page the same way, and does something more: ask Bernard to transcribe it and the words become material he can work from (Turn a recording into text shows how).

Storage that doesn’t surprise you
Your site has 500 MB of space for pages and images, and video and audio share their own separate 20 GB allowance - so one film of your open studio never squeezes out your photographs. Those are the standard figures; a site can be given a figure of its own, so your site’s own allowance is on your Library page. Questions people ask
- Where do I upload a file?
- Three places, all yours: your Library page (drag in as many as you like), the Image gallery tab in the workshop, or straight into the chat - attach the file and tell Bernard where it belongs.
- Does an uploaded file go live by itself?
- Uploading only stores the file with your site. Putting it on a page is a normal draft change - you see a preview and nothing changes on your live site until you approve it.
- Can I put a video on an ordinary page, not a course?
- Yes - an uploaded video plays right on the page with the browser’s own player, exactly as you filmed it. Captions, chapters and transcripts are only made for course lesson videos, so upload those on your course page instead.
- How big can files be?
- Photos up to 10 MB, documents up to 50 MB, audio up to 100 MB, and video up to 1 GB per file with 20 GB of media space per site - comfortable room for a phone-filmed clip. Your site’s own allowance is on your Library page.
- My video shows a black square before it plays - can I change the picture?
- Yes, and normally you won’t need to: every uploaded video gets a still picture taken from the film itself, a moment in rather than frame one, so the player shows something real before anyone presses play. To choose a different moment, tell Bernard roughly where - ‘use the bit about twelve seconds in’ - or ask him to use a photo you already have. Either way the page needs no other change.
- Can Bernard turn a recording into text?
- Yes - upload a voice note or recording and ask him to transcribe it. The text stays with the file in your library as material for pages he drafts, and nothing goes live without your approval.
