When did this person last open an email, click a link, or visit a course?
Open somebody’s page in Contacts and their Details card carries three dates that bernard works out for you: when they last opened an email, when they last clicked a link, and when they last visited a course.

They are worked out, never typed in
None of these three dates is something you or Bernard types in. Bernard reads what actually happened - an email opened, a link clicked, a course page visited - and shows the most recent one. There is nothing to approve here, because nothing is being changed.
Why a date can be empty
Any of the three can show “Not known” instead of a date, and the page always says why:
- Your site does not record opens and clicks. Recording has to be switched on for your site before anything can be seen at all.
- This person has not agreed to have their opens and clicks recorded. Recording only ever covers people who agreed.
- Nothing has been recorded yet. They agreed, but bernard has not seen an open or a click from them since. An open that a mail app fetched on its own, such as Apple Mail’s privacy check, is never counted towards this date.
- They stopped recording, and nothing was recorded before that. Someone can withdraw their agreement at any time; if nothing was seen while they were agreeing, the date stays empty.
Last course visit has its own two reasons for being empty: they have not opened a course since bernard started recording visits, or they are not enrolled on a course at all.
Reading these dates honestly
A “Not known” date is never a claim that somebody did not open an email or never visited a course. It only ever means bernard has no record to show you, for one of the reasons above. Can I see who opened my email? is the fuller story of how recording gets switched on and what counts as a real open.

Questions people ask
- Do I type these dates in myself?
- No. Bernard works all three out from what actually happened. You never type or approve a value for them; you only see what bernard has recorded.
- Why does it say Not known instead of a date?
- For one of a few honest reasons, and the page names which one: your site does not record opens and clicks, this person has not agreed to their opens and clicks being recorded, nothing has been recorded yet, or they stopped recording and nothing was seen before that. Last course visit is empty when they have not opened a course since bernard started recording visits, or when they are not on a course at all.
