How do I teach bernard about my business?
bernard learns your business by asking, not by making you fill in forms. Your site brain is a short set of documents: who the site is for, how you sound, what you offer, what the site is for, who you compete with. Some of them may be empty, and the parts only you know - what makes you different, what the site is for - often are.
The prompt
“Ask me about the most important gap in my site brain for [my site], one question at a time, and show me each change before you save it.”

Fill a gap
Ask bernard to fill in your site brain. It looks at which parts are missing or out of date, picks the one that would help it most, and asks you about it in plain words, one question at a time. When you have answered, it writes the part up and shows it to you before anything is saved.
Correct what is wrong
If something bernard knows about you is wrong, just say so: “that’s not who we sell to” or “we stopped offering that”. bernard finds the passage, shows you the old words and the new words side by side, and asks whether to save it.
Nothing changes without you
bernard never saves a change to your brain on its own, whatever you have let it do elsewhere on your site. It shows you each change first and saves it only when you say yes. A part you approve is marked as checked by you, so bernard knows it is right.
Undo the last change
You can undo the last change bernard made to your brain. Ask it to, and it shows you what will go back before you confirm. If the part has been changed again since, bernard tells you and undoes nothing. Undo covers the changes bernard made for you; changes made in other tools are kept by their own backups.
What happens next
Every answer gives bernard more to go on when a job needs it. Advice starts from your goals, and writing about your prices starts from your real offer. See What does bernard know about my business? for what bernard knows today.
Questions people ask
- Can I skip a question?
- Yes. Say you would rather not answer and bernard moves on to the next gap. Nothing is saved for a question you skipped, and you can come back to it later.
- What if bernard got something wrong?
- Say so. bernard shows you the exact change it would make and where, and saves it only when you approve. Saving also marks that part as checked by you.
- Can I take a change back?
- Yes. Ask bernard to undo the last change it made to your brain. It shows you what will go back first and waits for your yes. Undo covers changes bernard made, not edits made elsewhere.
