Make this page look like my other page
You have one page that looks right. Perhaps it is your About page, or the homepage of your other site. Now you have a new page that looks plainer or different, and you want it to match. You do not need to describe the look in design words. Point at the page you like.
The prompt
“Make my [new page] page look like my [page I like] page on [site name]: the same heading style, spacing, colours and buttons. Keep every word on [new page] as it is. Show me before and after.”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
How it works
- Name the two pages. The page you like, and the page you want to change. If the page you like is on your other bernard site, say which site.
- Your AI reads the look. It checks what the page you like really uses: the heading sizes and fonts, the colours, the space between sections, the style of the buttons. It reads the real values, so it does not have to guess them from a description.
- It changes the new page to match. Only the look. Your words, photos and links stay where they are.
- You look at the preview. On a phone and on a computer. Approve it, or say what is still different.
Good things to ask
Make the buttons on [new page] the same as the buttons on my homepage.
The headings on [new page] look smaller than on [page I like]. Show me why, then make them match.
Use the same section spacing on [new page] as on [page I like] on my [other site] site.
When matching is the wrong job
- The header, footer or menu is different. That is a different job: make one version the same on every page. See Make the header match on every page.
- You want the whole page, words included. Copy it instead. Between your own sites, see Reuse a page or photos from my other site.
- The page you like is on someone else’s website. Use a screenshot, as in Copy a design you’ve seen, and read Can I copy the look of someone else’s website? first.
- It is a shop or course page. bernard builds those itself from your products and lessons. They take their look from your site’s style, not from one page.
For a new site that should look like one you already run, start with the style itself: Decide how a new site looks before you build it.
Questions people ask
- Will my words change?
- No. Only the look changes: the heading style, the spacing, the colours, the buttons. Ask for different words separately if you want them. Every change waits on the draft until you approve it.
- Can the page I like be on my other site?
- Yes, if both sites are on your bernard account. Your AI can read the styling of a page on one site and use it on a page on the other. If you want the whole page, words and all, copy it instead.
- Can I point it at a page on someone else’s website?
- Your AI can read the words on an outside page from its link, but not reliably its look. For another site’s look, send a screenshot. That route is the borrow-a-look article, and it comes with some care about what is fair to take.
- Does it check the page on a phone too?
- Yes. A page can be laid out differently on a phone and on a computer, and your AI looks at both before it shows you the result. Check both previews before you approve.
