Give my members a better price on my courses

Members who pay you every month should pay less for your courses. Tell Bernard the price and which membership it is for, and that price appears only to those members.

The prompt

“Members of my [membership name] get [course name] for [the member price]. Let people join and get that price in the same checkout.”

Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).

How it works

  1. Say the member price. “Members of the club get Seascapes for £100.” It must be lower than the price everyone else pays; bernard refuses a member price that is higher, so members never pay more.
  2. Decide whether people can join to get it. With joining allowed, a visitor sees the member price with what joining costs today and what repeats after, and pays both in one checkout.
  3. Approve. The course page goes live when you say so.

Your course page cannot know who is looking at it, so the member price is hidden until the page has checked with bernard that the visitor is an active member. A member whose card has failed keeps the price through the grace period; someone who has left does not. A member who is not signed in sees a “Members: sign in to see your price” link to their learner home; once signed in, the price appears. At checkout bernard checks the sign-in again, never an email address typed into the page, so the price is never sold to someone who is not a member, and the checkout never tells anyone whether an email address belongs to one of your members.

Someone who joins and buys at once gets the course for its full term from the day they pay, and the membership runs like any other (Run a membership or paid community - people pay monthly for my courses). When the membership has a monthly and a yearly price, the page offers both ways to join. If you refund only the membership’s first payment, they keep the course; a refund of the course takes it away, as with any course.

Giving months of the membership free with a course, rather than a lower price, is in Give a few months of my membership with a course.

Selling one course several ways is in Sell one course several ways, at different prices, and your whole price list - member prices included - is in Show me all my prices in one place.

Questions people ask

Who sees the member price?
Only active members of the membership you name, and only once they are signed in to your site - through their learner home or a course link on that device. Everyone else sees your normal prices and a ‘Members: sign in to see your price’ link. Typing an email address is never enough: checkout checks the member’s sign-in, not what they type.
Can someone join and get the member price straight away?
Yes, if you allow it. The course page then shows, for example, ‘Join the club and get this for £100: £125 today, then £25 a month.’ It is one checkout: the first month of the membership and the course together.
What if they cancel the membership after the first month?
They keep the course - they bought it - and the membership ends as usual. That is the same as on most course platforms today. If a short stay worries you, keep an eye on it in your price list; bernard says so plainly there.
Does a discount code work on a member price?
No. Codes do not add to a member price: it is already the lowest price. A member who has a code as well pays the lower of the two.
Do I have to approve it?
The course page with the member price is drafted privately and goes live when you approve it, like every page change.
