Limit how many people can buy my workshop or course
An in-person workshop has a room, and a room has a number of chairs. Tell Bernard the number once and the page does the counting: it says how many places are left, says “Sold out” when they are gone, and turns off the buy button.
The prompt
“Limit [course or workshop name] to [number] places. [The people who already booked elsewhere] already hold places: count them.”

How it works
- Say the limit. “My landscape workshop has 18 places.” The limit goes on the way the workshop is sold, so every price of it counts towards the same 18 - paying at once and paying in parts (Let people pay for a course or workshop in instalments).
- Count the people who already booked. Moving from another platform? Give Bernard the list and ask for each person to take a place (Bring my students across with the time they have left). People you add by hand take a place only when you say so.
- Check the page. It shows “3 places left”, or “Sold out” when they are gone. The count is read fresh each time someone opens the page.
- Approve. The page goes live when you say so.
What takes a place
- A paid order. A refund frees the place again.
- Someone paying in parts. Their place is taken from the first payment and stays theirs while they pay, even if a payment is late.
- Someone you added and said takes a place.
- Someone paying right now. Their place is held for 15 minutes, so two people can never both buy the last one. If they leave without paying, the place comes back.
Good to know
- The limit belongs to the way the course is sold, not to the course. If a course is sold several ways (Sell one course several ways, at different prices), say whether the limit covers all of them; Bernard warns you when one way would still sell without a limit.
- Your price list shows the limit, how many places are taken, how many are being paid for right now, and how many are left (Show me all my prices in one place).
Questions people ask
- Can two people buy the last place at the same time?
- No. When someone starts paying, their place is held for 15 minutes. Anyone who tries at the same moment is told it is sold out, and the place comes back if the first person does not finish.
- What happens to a place when I refund someone?
- It is freed and the count goes back up, so someone else can buy it.
- Do people I add by hand take a place?
- Only when you say so. Bring across people who booked on your old platform, or a guest you want to count, and ask Bernard to give them a place. Without that, adding someone takes no place.
- Can I change the number later?
- Yes, up or down, but never below the places already taken: nobody loses a place they have. The new limit is drafted privately and goes live when you approve it.
