What is Bernard’s brain?
Your site brain is the first part of your business brain. Bernard’s brain is a small set of short documents that describe your business and each of your websites: who you serve, what you offer, how you sound, how your site looks, what the site is for, and what you have decided.
The prompt
“Explain what Bernard’s brain is for [my business], and tell me what you already know.”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
bernard and your own AI assistant read it, so neither has to guess about your business and you do not have to explain it twice.
How it is organised
- One business brain holds what is true of the whole business. See What’s the difference between my site brain and my business brain?.
- One site brain per website holds what is true of that site, and sits under the business brain. See What’s in my site brain?.
- Several websites on one account share the same business brain. See I have several websites. How do the brains fit together?.
Each brain follows a blueprint: the list of documents that kind of brain should have. Every site brain starts from the same list, so you always know what is there and what is missing.
How it stays right
bernard drafts, you check. A drafted document stays marked “not checked” until you correct or confirm it; see What do filled, checked and out of date mean in my brain?. Nothing in your brain changes without your yes, and the last change made through bernard can be undone.

Questions people ask
- Is it the same as Your Style?
- No. Your Style is the short version bernard keeps in mind for every job: how you sound and look. Your brain is the fuller record behind it, which bernard looks things up in when a job needs more.
- Do I have to write it myself?
- No. When we switch it on, bernard surveys your websites and drafts the first documents. Your part is to correct what it got wrong and fill in what only you know.
- Where is it kept?
- In Sasha, Bernard’s sister product, built by the people who built Bernard - Context Is Everything. Each account has its own private space there.
- Can bernard change my brain or my site without asking?
- No. bernard shows you the exact change first, and saves it only after you approve it. A change to your site is also a draft that waits for your approval before it goes live.
