Can I see my posts, blog posts and emails on one calendar and move them about?
Your calendar shows your social posts, blog posts and emails on their days, next to the jobs Bernard plans for you. It is one of the tabs in Bernard’s Workshop. For what a plan is built from and how its pieces are approved, see What is Bernard’s calendar of work?.
The prompt
“Show me what is on my calendar this month, and what is waiting on my shelf.”
Signed in, Get my prompt fills in your site for you. Otherwise press Copy and fill in the [bracketed] parts. First time? Connect your AI to bernard once: Use your own AI (opens in a new tab).
It fills the Workshop
Open the Calendar tab and the calendar takes the whole Workshop, so the month has room. The chat folds to the Side by side button at the side. Press it to bring the chat back beside the calendar, or press Do it with Bernard on any item and the chat opens with that item ready to work on.
The calendar has two tabs of its own. Calendar is the month. Content is everything written for your site as notes you can read and put in order.
Reading the month
Each item is a small chip on its day. The sea creature says what type it is and the border says what state it is in:
- a fish is a social post, a shell a blog post, an octopus an email to a list, a turtle a journey step, a whale a lesson, a crab a get-known task and a lobster a measure;
- a dashed border is an idea or a draft, a solid one is planned or scheduled, a faint one went out, a dotted one runs on its own, and coral with a warning sign needs you.
A post with a time shows the time first. The filters above the month show only posts, blog posts, emails or tasks. Past days are shaded and stay as they were.
Opening an item
Tap any item to open it in its own window. A post, blog post or email opens wide: the words on the left and the picture on the right, both in view. Change the words, choose a picture from your library, and press Schedule, Save draft or Review and send. Escape or the close button takes you back to the same place on the calendar.
In the picture’s second step, Make it move, Bernard can turn your photo and your words into a short quiet film: see Make a photo move for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Adding something on a day
Tap an empty day from today on. Bernard asks what you want on that day: a social post, a blog post or an email to a list. Type your own words and press Save it, and your words are kept exactly as you typed them. Or press Let Bernard draft it and the chat opens with the day and the type filled in. You do not need a plan first. Can I put my own post, blog post or email on my calendar, in my own words? says more about your own words.
If a network or email sending is not set up yet, its choice is lighter, with a dashed border and words that say so: Connect Instagram, Connect Facebook or Set up email sending takes you to the page that sets it up. You can still write the item. A post to a network that is not connected is still scheduled, and Bernard reminds you to post it yourself; an email sends once sending is set up.
Moving things
Drag an item to another day. An idea, a draft or a planned item moves at once. A post or email you already scheduled asks you to press Schedule again for the new time, and the old time holds until you do. A past day, and anything that went out, does not move, and the calendar says why.
With a keyboard, focus an item, press M, use the arrow keys to pick a day and press Enter. Escape cancels. On a phone, open the item and use Move to.
The shelf and the Content tab
Items with no day wait on the shelf under the month. In the Content tab each one is a written note with a number: its place in your order. Drag a note by its handle to a new place, or focus the handle, press Space and use the arrow keys. The shelf follows the same order. Press Put these on my calendar and Bernard puts them on your free days in that order, at the rhythm you pick (two posts and one longer piece a week to start with). They land as planned, so you still approve each one.
Questions people ask
- What happens when I drag a post I already approved?
- It does not move yet. Its window opens and asks you to press Schedule again, because your approval was for a time, not only for the words. The old time holds until you do. Put it back closes the window and nothing changes.
- Why is there a fish on my post?
- Each type has its own sea creature, drawn in one colour: a fish for a social post, a shell for a blog post, an octopus for an email to a list, a turtle for a journey step, a whale for a lesson, a crab for a get-known task and a lobster for a measure. A screen reader says the type, not the animal.
- What do the borders mean?
- The border is the state. Dashed is an idea or a draft. Solid is planned or scheduled. Faint is what already went out. Coral with a warning sign needs you. Dotted runs on its own, like a journey step.
- Can I move things on my phone?
- Yes. A phone does not drag. Tap the day to see its list, open the item, and pick a new day in its Move to field.
- What is the shelf?
- Items with no day yet wait on the shelf under the calendar, in your order. Drag one onto a day, open it and pick a day, or press Put these on my calendar and Bernard puts them on your free days in that order. They land as planned; nothing is approved or sent.
- Why does Instagram or my email look lighter, with a link beside it?
- It is not set up yet. A network with no connected account says Not connected and has a Connect link to your Social accounts settings. You can still write and schedule the post, and Bernard reminds you to post it yourself until it is connected. An email to a list says Email sending is not set up yet and links to Set up email sending. You can still write the email; it sends once sending is set up.
- Does adding or moving something post or send it?
- No. A post waits for your Schedule, an email for your yes to its quote, and a blog post for your Publish. Nothing goes out until you approve it.
